Nancy Evans Hargrave Endowed Scholarship

David A. Hargrave began this scholarship in memory and honor of his wife, Nancy Evans Hargrave, who dedicated her career to teaching and supporting students at SUNY Erie.

Nancy Evans Hargrave was a professor at SUNY Erie Community College for 27 years, until she retired in March 2020. She was an outstanding member of the campus community, engaging students and receiving the SGA Award for Outstanding Club Advisor two consecutive years (2011-2013). She graduated from Ithaca College in 1977, where she met her husband, David. Nancy went on to receive master’s degrees from Indiana University in Health & Physical Education, and from Canisius College in Educational Administration. She also earned an A.A.S. in interpreting from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at RIT. At ECC she taught American Sign Language, Personal Health, Health Education, and CPR/First Aid.

This Scholarship is created in loving memory of Nancy by her husband, with the intention that her support of SUNY Erie students may continue in the departments and programs she loved.

Qualifications/Criteria:
1. Program must be one of the following:
- Physical Education, Sports & Leisure Studies, Health Education
– Preference for Humanities Department students who are enrolled or enrolling in an American Sign Language course
2. Financial Need Considered
- Must need tuition and fees assistance above the amount awarded by State or Federal financial aid

This scholarship is “Non-Refundable.” Any amount greater than required for tuition, fees, and or books & supplies from the SUNY Erie Bookstore will be returned to the Foundation for future scholarship awards.
