5/14 Remembrance Scholarship

As a community college our core mission is to be an agent of change through a commitment to accessible educational programs. Our scholarships are an important tool to increase that access. In remembrance of the ten people who lost their lives on May 14, 2022, SUNY Erie Community College is creating a scholarship fund for ten economically-disadvantaged residents of East Buffalo, New York. These scholarships will be awarded to new students as a first dollar contribution to their education in any academic program at the college. The first-year goal is to award ten students with $1000 for the academic year. In year two, awardees who remain enrolled with a GPA of 2.0 or higher will receive another $1000 contribution to their education. 

Qualifications for First Year Applicants:
1. Economically Disadvantaged Student – Financial Need Considered
2. Resident of East Buffalo, New York
3. Short Response: “How will I use my education to impact my community?”
- 500 Word Written or Video Response
4. A reference letter; Written or Video format
- This may be from community members, teachers, school, work, etc.

Qualifications for First Year Awardees to receive the award for the second year:
1. Maintain Good Academic Standing and Register for classes by the application deadline.
2. Maintain a 2.0 GPA or greater
